Whitefish is easily one of the most beautiful and popular wilderness tourist areas in Western Montana. Population is under 10,000, with Flathead County (third largest populated County in Montana) at under 100,000. That is less than fifteen people per square mile ! With world famous Big Mountain Winter Ski and
Recreation Area (300,000 + visitors per year) right here in Whitefish, and Glacier National Park (3,000,000 + visitors per year) just thirty minutes to the northeast, hotel locations just don’t get much better.

With fourteen spectacular wilderness mountain lakes, eleven area golf courses, athletic clubs, tennis, hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling, this pristine area gets better and better…. Kalispell is Montana’s fourth largest city, and the third fastest growing area in the State, and it’s just twelve miles south of Whitefish, with International Airport (United, Delta Skywest, Northwest Airlines), Community College, Costco, Lowes, Home Depot, Target, Walmart, etc. Whitefish also has its’ own performing arts center, historic train depot, central park, Hospital and Emergency Care Center, Library and Town Center.

Average daytime temperatures range from 20 to 75 degrees, with about one foot of total accumulated snowfall over the winter. Remember, this is the ‘Pacific Weather System’ originating from the West Coast. Eastern Montana, with about two-thirds of the state’s land area, situated east of the Rocky Mountains and Continental Divide, has the ‘Atlantic Weather System’ like North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Michigan. Big Mountain at 7,000’ and the high Glacier National Park peaks at 9,000 +, have heavy snow fall throughout the winter months. This all adds up to our wonderful CHANGING SEASONS, providing our lush green, rushing river springs, warm clear summers and delightful crisp and colorful falls.

Seven hotels and motels are situated along State Highway 93, plus a dozen lodges, chalets and bed and breakfasts around Whitefish Lake and up on Big Mountain. In addition to Big Mountain and Glacier National Park, area recreational attractions include Big Sky Water Park, Hungry Horse Dam and Wilderness Camping Area, House of Mystery, Great Northern Brewing Company and several State and Federal Wildlife Parks and Wilderness Areas.
